Just Another Sunday
by John M.

It started off simple enough. I saw Wendy’s Dick on Saturday night and we discussed a ride on Sunday after the HOG breakfast. The ride was to include a swim because it was going to be a scorcher of a day. I put a message on the ride line warning members to bring along a towel and an optional bathing suit. Most 50 somethings choose the option.

WOW what a turn out for breakfast, we filled our side of the restaurant, booths and all. It was great to see everyone. With input from the members at breakfast, we decided upon a route. We planned a stop in Kanata to allow those who did not check the ride line to go get their bathing suits and towels. Then we were off, west through Antrim to a lovely little town, Packenham, with a stop at — you guessed it — SCOOPS ice cream stand. A little pause for the cause there and we were off again. We went through White Lake and turned right, towards Burnstown. After crossing the bridge, we turned left onto 508, towards, you guessed it Calabogie. Several Kms down the road we we pulled off to a picnic area on the right with washrooms to change in.

After about an hour of lounging in the nice warm water, we dressed and continued our journey. We continued to Calabogie and Highway 511, where the group of 14 bikes headed South. We went at a nice pace allowing everyone to carve this road and its turns in their own way. We went through some very hot areas and it was a good thing we were moving. It was amazing how the heat was concentrated in some areas. The group wove it’s way through the village of Lanark and continued south. We came upon and stopped at a chip wagon on the right hand side of the road and stopped there as we had been riding for almost 30 minutes. This chip stand actually cooks their fries in canola oil. There were also some interesting choices on the menu that follow the vegetarian diet. After all orders were filled, the young man came to our gazebo and entertained us with card tricks. He was very good. Pick a card any card, I’ll bet it’s the 6 of diamonds, right Mary Ann? You can’t fool Wendy though. Just the card tricks are worth the stop. We were off once again, stopping to say goodbye at the Tim Hortons in Perth on Highway 7. The largest group continued down the Franktown Road, splitting off as they reached the roads to home.
