Well the Mystery Tour is in the books for this year. What a day we had.
We started by breaking in a new Salvation Army representative and he was wondering more than once what he had gotten himself into. As a matter of fact, up until two weeks ago, he didn’t think we could pull it off. Thanks to the members that got involved, not only did we pull it off but made it a success. This was in spite of the challenge the weather threw at us with record low attendance.
Members and friends got behind the cause and collected an amazing assortment of prizes. They then organized the gifts into logical raffle groups and worked the crowd selling tickets relentlessly. The end result was a dollar total close to last year. You people are amazing. You know who you are.
Live 88.5, Ottawa’s new alternative radio station, was behind us, promoting us on the air waves and CJOH had a big feature on us during the news that night. The Salvation Army representative went on TV saying that he was amazed at how hard the Eastern Ontario Harley Owners Group worked for the cause, never giving up.
Volunteers for the day rode their bikes to the event in the rain or brought their cars, vans and trucks to bring equipment. We even tented the area to protect it from the few remaining showers. We enjoyed terrific support from TIM HORTONS. Those who wanted to had a feast of donuts and coffee and we registered people under TH’s brand new event tent. Capone’s did its usual terrific job. Every participant went home with a full belly and a door prize. A few lucky individuals even went home with a prize package they had wanted from the raffle. They were also happy because the sun was finally shinning.
Mike is still counting the proceeds and a few bills have to be cleared up but we should exceed last years total. Thanks for all your help.
